June has been pretty kind to the trout in the central U.P. this year with mild water temps and high water. The Brown drake hatch is still going on and they have been joined by great numbers of stones. Caddis, olives and Iso's are also present and we are waiting for the Iso's to take center stage..The brookies and browns seem to be content to feed on the surface all day especially on the smaller streams.Hex have been sighted and will be going strong in the near future. Smallmouth and pike fishing is great at the moment and many anglers are choosing them over trout especially on the hotter days.

High water has made wading pretty difficult on area rivers, but the bugs have continued to come off in good numbers. We have sulfurs, stones, olives and brown DRAKES! The drakes have just started and the some of the biggest dry fly fish of the year will be caught over the next two weeks. Water levels are slowly dropping and the wading is getting much easier. The shop is fully stocked with the bugs you need so stop by for a hatch report and a few of the hot flies.
