The fishing in our area is great right now and fly fishing is starting to take center stage. Steelhead are the main target, but we are also seeing some browns and brookies gorging on the spring buffet of eggs. Chartreuse, orange and pink eggs in smaller sizes are working really well. There are lots of fish present and there are many anglers out after them! It looks like we will be getting a significant amount of rain which should set us up for a great opening day.
We have had our share of ups and downs with the weather patterns this year.We were lucky to get one bump in water levels which brought some steelhead in.Currently we have pretty good numbers in our area, but the water levels and temps are still very low for this time of year. The last week has been great for fly fisherman and eggs and stones have been the hot patterns. This weekend looks like the kind of weather that we have been waiting on. Warm temps and rain! Look for many of the rivers to blow out and bring in a big push of spring steelhead! I have a couple days left for guided steelhead trips, so give us a call to secure a date. (906) 273-0229
Winter conditions are making for some hit or miss fishing at the moment. Steelhead are present in every stream open to fishing at this point and most rivers are running on the high side, but still very fishable. Temps are remaining in the mid thirties and will stay that way for awhile since we are going to have temps in the teens for a few nights. The best presentation in the river has been float fishing with spawn or waxies. Fly anglers are picking up some fish on eggs and stones. The harbors are fishing very well for coho and most are throwing bucktail jigs and cleos for them. The shop is fully stocked for all your spring fishing needs and we have a couple openings for spring steelhead trips.
